ResearchNB is pleased to announce the recipient of the Public Health Research Fund call focused on food insecurity. This project will support evidence-based policy development to address the root causes of food insecurity in New Brunswick. A total of one (1) project was funded, representing an investment of $35,000.

This research will help inform provincial decision-making by identifying effective, equitable, and cost-effective policy interventions to improve food security and health outcomes across the province.

Congratulations to Dr. Daniel Dutton from Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick

A literature review on policy interventions to address root causes of food insecurity

Food insecurity—defined as the inability to consistently afford adequate food—is a significant public health issue linked to poorer health outcomes. This project will include an “evidence map” of Canadian research to identify policies that can influence household food insecurity, such as income supports and cost-of-living factors.

The research will compare national evidence with existing New Brunswick policies to identify gaps and opportunities for action. It will also assess the cost-effectiveness of different policy options, estimating how much investment is required to reduce food insecurity across the province.

Findings will be compiled into a comprehensive report to support evidence-based policymaking and will be shared with key stakeholders, including community organizations and government partners.

We would like to thank all the researchers who applied for this funding opportunity.
