Award Announcement – Strategic Opportunities Fund and Lab to Market Fund

ResearchNB is proud to announce the five recipients of this year’s Strategic Opportunities Fund and Lab to Market Fund with awards totaling $627,500. The purpose of the ResearchNB Strategic Opportunities Fund is to build research capacity in New Brunswick via participation in large, multi-jurisdiction applied research projects. These projects have high potential impact, both in and outside of New Brunswick, and involve many partners outside of academia. The purpose of the ResearchNB Lab to Market Fund is to accelerate the development of technologies that have commercial applications.

Researcher: Clodualdo Aranas, University of New Brunswick

Award: $200,000

Project: Towards Net-Zero: Innovating Alloys for Sustainable Electrification

 

Researcher: Zahra Khatami, University of New Brunswick

Award: $12,500

Project: Transparent Solar Cells Based on Rare Earth-Doped Silicon Oxide

 

Information, Communication, Technology, Enabling Sector:

Researcher: William McIver, New Brunswick Community College

Award: $90,000

Project: Navigating Accessibility: A Radical Re-design of Mobile App Assistance for People Who Face Accessibility Barriers

 

Health Priority Sector:

Researcher: Mahmoud Abdelsalam, Horizon Health Network

Award: $200,000

Project: Health System Impact Study on Subcutaneous Treatment with Immunotherapy for Cancer Patients at Home (STITCH-01)

 

Forestry Sector

Researcher: Gaetan Pelletier, Northern Hardwoods Research Institute

Award: $250,000

Project: Developing harvest-based silviculture planning tools for the climate-smart management of mixed and hardwood temperate forests
