About the Position:
We are looking for a strategic and creative bilingual storyteller with exceptional writing skills, strong media relationships and experience leading executive communications with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. As a member of the senior leadership team, the Director, Communications takes a leadership role in advancing research impact by overseeing the implementation of the Science Communication Strategy, building a strong digital presence and securing relationships with traditional media. Leading a team of skilled marketing and social media specialists, the Director supports the organization’s communications objectives and collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive messaging and branding in all ResearchNB activities.
What will you do?
Strategic Communications
- Lead the development and oversee the team’s execution of strategic internal and external communication strategies to drive awareness of ResearchNB & the value and impact of research in New Brunswick.
- Prepare key messages for all events, programs and partnerships to ensure ResearchNB is well-positioned and the value of research is clearly articulated.
- Oversee the organization of ResearchNB events that promote the value of research and foster strategic collaboration among key stakeholders.
- Collaborate with communications leads from partner organizations to maximize impact of ResearchNB’s communications efforts.
- Identify and lead opportunities to profile ResearchNB and New Brunswick research. Including media tours, event sponsorships, LinkedIn thought leadership development, speech writing, and impact videos.
Media Relations
- Develop and manage a contact database with a focus on building meaningful relationships with key audiences and external media sources.
- Curate media releases and announcements to attract the attention of external media sources.
- Identify new opportunities to reach target audiences through media channels.
- Manage media requests and ensure the CEO and other spokespersons are prepared to communicate with media.
Management & Accountability
- Supervise the communications team and oversee the organization’s digital media portfolio.
- Lead the development and implementation of communications policies and procedures.
- Establish mechanisms to support continuous improvement of communications efforts and deliver quarterly reports on the impact of communication activities.

What do you need to succeed?
Must have:
- 10+ years of professional communications experience
- A university degree (or equivalent) in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field
- Proven ability to lead teams and support talent development
- Proficiency in English and French (written and oral) is required
- Strong creative and business writing, media relations , and organizational skills
- Experience providing strategic communications advice to senior business leaders and subject matter experts
- Demonstrated experience developing successful communication campaigns including digital media, social media, traditional media, and more
Nice to have:
- A fast learner with a natural curiosity, passion and keen eye for identifying storytelling opportunities
- Equal measure of collaborative spirit to operate as part of highly integrated team, while also being able to self-manage and work independently to deliver on day-to-day priorities
- Professional experience in research, knowledge translation and/or implementation science.
- Professional experience in health, energy, oceans, agriculture, or forestry.
